New Moon in Gemini: A Friend Indeed

Good friends are better than pocket money.” Jamaican adage

BELoved,

Whew! This last month’s start to eclipse season was grueling. Personally speaking it was one of  the most challenging months since the onset of the 2020 collective shift.

But today’s New Moon in Gemini ushers in a fun, playful energy to uplift us. It arrives at 8:30 am ET on Memorial Day Holiday (for those of us in the US) at 9 degrees Gemini.

Gemini is an air sign. Air signs are about communication and social activity. Gemini is also a mutable sign. Mutable refers the mode of the sign. Mode, in astrology, describes the quality of movement or flow of the sign. There are three modes: cardinal, fixed and mutable. Each of the 12 signs fits in one of these three modes.

In astrology circles, mode is also known as quadruplicity and as the word implies there are four signs to each mode. The mutable signs are Gemini (air); Sagittarius (fire); Virgo (earth) and Pisces (water).

Why is this important to know?  So far in my blogs, we have only considered the sign and degree that the moon is in when it becomes new. However, if you have planets in your natal chart that are close to 9 degrees in any of the mutable signs, they will also be activated at the New Moon.

Take a moment to look at your natal chart to see if you have planets in Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces. If you find some, next look at the degree. Is it close to 9 degrees? The closer it is to 9 degrees,  the more impact it will have for you. (See the Lighten Up Activity below).

Regardless of whether or not our natal chart has planets in Gemini or other mutable signs, this Moon will bring in a wave of fresh air. It will give us a chance to set new intentions around Gemini topics like friendships, fun, communication and connection.

With Mercury, Gemini’s ruling planet, still in retrograde we may want to spend time re-evaluating or rethinking connection and communication. Do you feel connected? Do the friends in our community lift us up or tear us down? Is it time to find or reconnect with our tribe? When was the last time we had a good time with our closest friends?

Isolation is the scourge of our generation. It has chipped away at our vitality and vibrance. Our preference is to send a text message with more emjois than words for the truly personal relational situations. We have gone out and watched couples on a date immersed in their phones instead of eye contact and conversation or see children zombified by computer games, oblivious to people around them.

The COVID lock downs simply amplified what was already the norm. It took the feeling of isolation to dire heights. As a silver lining, it has made us realize how important connection and community are. This New Moon gives us the opportunity  to re-imagine how to elevate and appreciate those that always carry us in their hearts.

Who is that person that is there anytime you need a friend? The Universe prompted me to ask this question for the last few days. Often I am given musical cues from the Universe. They drop in during that gap between sleep and wake in the mornings. Sometimes, I don’t know the song and it becomes an adventure figuring it out. That fun is only matched by the exuberance of seeing how perfectly the lyrics answer whatever question I have put into the Universe or how uplifting it is for the present state or situation in my life.

This week, as I returned to the waking world, I was greeted by the Mariah Carey’s Anytime You Need A Friend. What a perfect lead in to the Gemini New Moon. I am indeed grateful for my friends especially as I navigate the upheaval of the last two years.

In Jamaica, there is a saying,’ Good friends are better than pocket money.’ Never were there truer words as the value of a true friend is beyond measure. I am so grateful for my friend who takes time every morning to send me a video message; for the friends who welcome me into their homes; for those who send or create professional opportunities; for the friend who sends her gorgeous photos of the NYC landscape; for friends that I can pour my heart out to and trust with my soul’s desires; for those who do not judge me; for those who always know the perfect moment to call and cheer me up.

During this New Moon, let us prioritize and nurture our friends and community so that we can make deeper connections the most prevalent long-haul condition of this pandemic.

New Moon Rituals

Gemini helps us flow in flexibility. It is a spontaneous and fun-loving sign. A New Moon in Gemini is a great time to lighten up and have a good time with friends. This week prioritize time with friends that are near and dear.

Stay away from the unproductive Gemini traits that include gossiping i.e. speak no evil. Make sure you also think no evil and avoid succumbing to.feelings of anxiety and worry.

  1. Refrain from gossip

Gemini is the notorious gossip of the zodiac. Gossip is lots of air with no substance. It lends nothing meaningful to the conversation. Make this New Moon a no-gossip zone.

2. Journal

Gemini is the wordsmith of the zodiac. Dedicate time this week to journal or to refocus on any writing or creative projects.

3. Write to a Friend

This year we spoke about embracing a slow living movement. In 2022, we are purposeful in taking time for the non-urgent but nevertheless, the important things in our lives. Take time this week to write a card to a friend and mail it or deliver it to them.

4. Reconnect

Is there someone that you have lost touch with? This might be a great moment to reconnect. See New Moon ritual #3

5. Yoga

Gemini is known for its flexibility. Get in a yoga class or Pilates session and get in touch with your flexibility on the mat as well as in your mind.

6. Thai Massage

Try a Thai massage. It is often a relaxing and as in New Moon Ritual above, will inspire flexibility.

7. Have some fun with friends

Take time to plan and be present with the people in your innermost circle. Feed your soul and create memories that will last beyond this pandemic.

The Beat of the New Moon

Mariah Carey’s voice and lyrics really bring up the positive vibes in ‘Anytime You Need a Friend’ She reminds us that the antidote for feeling lonely is to reach out to the ones that love us. These last two years, our ‘troubles seem like they never end. Just remember to keep the faith and love will there to light the way.”

Happy New Moon in Gemini!

Just remember you are not alone!

I think about you often, you have so much to give to anyone that is lucky to know you. I feel very blessed that I can call you my friend. I know we don’t get to connect often but I think about you always and I know something great is out in the world for you. It just hasn’t found you yet. When it does, we all will benefit from whatever it is. Be well my friend,
