BeLOVED

Today’s New Moon roars at 16 degrees Leo. It falls on the 8th day of the 8th month during the time when the star Sirius is rising. In ancient circles, this celestial event creates a powerful portal known as the Lion’s Gate. It is believed to supercharge our intentions and our ability to manifest our heart’s desires. In other words, when it comes to our dreams, it time to go big or go home.

The Leo New Moon arrives Aug 8th at 9:50 am EDT. Leo is a masculine fire sign. The lion energy is about creation and confidence. The big heart and fierce Leo energy fuels our passions. Fiery Leo is ruled by the Sun. The Sun is about our vitality, our expression and our individuality.

The Sun is also about our conscious mind while the Moon represents our subconscious mind. New Moons are the time of the month when the Sun and Moon stand next to each other in the same sign. When these two lights stand together they create a potent moment for action. Think of the New Moon as the celestial power couple whose union allows for heightened synergy and opportunity to start something new and powerful.

Hence, New Moons are ideal times to seed our intentions. With the bold Leo energy and the auspicious opening of the Lion’s Gate, we get a meaningful and magical chance to manifest our dreams.

Today’s New Moon sits opposite to Saturn in Aquarius. We are asked to push beyond personal limits to think, feel and express a new level of freedom.  But how do we do this? The Leo moon will ask us to be brave and will dare us to admit what is within our heart of hearts. There is no moment like this one to be authentic and loyal to ourselves and our aspirations.

We are living in a unique time. As we look out into the world we are continually reminded that nothing is a sure thing and nothing ever really was.  Naturally, many of us are clinging to the hopes of a return to some familiar form of stability. We want to go back to what we knew as ‘normal’. But there is no going back. That world no longer exists. And as jarring and uncomfortable as that may seem at first, the truth is that it also brings with it an unprecedented moment of freedom.

Do not let the shadows of the past obscure the magnitude of this rare and precious once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In this moment, you are free to do it differently…so do it differently. Do life, your life, in a way that lights up every fiber of your being. Do it with love and do it with the heart of a lion.

We are human and so we may feel hesitant, unsure and even a bit afraid to take the road to freedom.  The word ‘human’ speaks to our ‘hu’ (god) ‘man’ (mind) and we connect to that GodMind through the heart. Leo rules the heart and all its yearnings.

Be courageous and dust off those dreams you stashed away in the recesses of your heart; the ones that you want to wait until the children got on their feet, or plan to do when you retire, or the ones that you are afraid are too radical a change from your present status quo, or fill-in-the-blank with whatever you have told yourself. It is time to unlock your Lion’s Gate and step on the ‘path you are destined to walk upon.’  Today, choose to be fiercely loyal to what truly matters to you.

We are stepping into a brand new, brave world. And it is time for you, my BeLoved, to roar.

New Moon Rituals

I highly recommend that you extend these rituals throughout the week. Do some or do all.

  1. Light candles and incense:

Light candles and/or incense sticks. Stoke it. Keep it burning throughout this New Moon.

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:

There is a lot of energy around. Keep your body hydrate with coconut water or a drink that replenishes electrolytes. We need our body for this spiritual journey, so take care of it.

  1. Lion’s Pose (Simhasana):

The Lion’s pose is one of my favorite yoga poses. It has several benefits from relaxing and toning the face, reducing bad breath, improving communication and lowering anxiety and anger.

  1. Journal:

Consider your favorite childhood activity? What was your play as a child? Did you play the part of a teacher or dancer or artist? Our childhood playtime often gives us insight to our heart’s desires.

  1. Fire ceremony:

List all the reasons, fears, and anxieties that you have around taking the step on your desired path. Safely light a fire and burn them one by one. (Please take care when lighting a fire. Do it in a contained area that is far from any flammable materials and be mindful not to burn yourself).

  1. Clear the air:

Leo rules the heart and the heart rules our capacity for forgiveness. If there is an opportunity to apologize for an action that may have created an injury or hurt, take a moment to reach out and apologize. Start small. If there has been a major injury, seek support in how to clear the air.

  1. Compassion:

The heart is also the seat of our compassion. Extend compassion to ourselves. Be gentle, be kind and be loving to ourselves. It is the bravest thing we can do.

  1. Move on instinct:

Instinct is a part of our human nature and allows us to navigate this earth plane safely. Today and throughout this New Moon phase, pay special attention to our instinctual hits.
